People who suffer from psychological trauma symptoms tend to have brainstems that are “dysregulated” (i.e., not well organized). When the brain stem is not well-organized, it can make other parts of the brain not function as well as they potentially could. When this happens, a person’s ability to think clearly, analyze, understand, and make as good judgments can become compromised.
Addressing Brain Dysregulation
Our onsite Brain Spa offers treatments that address dysregulation in the brain stem and limbic brain areas. It offers Neurofeedback (EEG Biofeedback) therapies using Brain Paint technology and a dedicated meditation room for mindfulness practices. Other trauma resolution services include trauma sensitive yoga, art therapy and family participation.
These therapies address problems associated with:
- Attention deficits
- Behavior disorders
- Addictive disorders
- And more…
The Brain Spa benefits help enhance the patients’ treatment process by helping them to better regulate their thoughts and emotions and focus on recovery.
Cutting-Edge Trauma Treatment
A traumatic event or situation creates psychological trauma when it overwhelms a person's ability to cope, and leaves that person feeling overwhelmed and alone. The individual may feel emotionally, cognitively, and physically overwhelmed.
The Brain Spa at The Meadows Outpatient Center is based on The Meadows' Brain Center which was created through the work of The Meadows Senior Fellow Dr. Shelley Uram and The Meadows Director of Trauma Resolution Services Deirdre Stewart, along with leaders in the field of trauma services at The Meadows. The Brain Spa offers activities to aid in grounding and self-regulation which allows for better integration and implementation of more traditional approaches incorporated in the treatment process.
